Surely it cannot be overlooked that current levels of pollution, caused by man, are threatening the future of all living things, but such effects must be seen in longer cycles, such as thousands of years. Consumption implies pollution. The planet is shifting from nature to technology, so at some point technology may trump nature.
At some point human beings may become extinct, while other beings will adapt to the new conditions. Nothing keeps the same state forever. Living, and life in general, are just temporary conditions on the planet. Worrying about future generations makes no sense, because there may not be future generations at all and in any case the survivors always have to adapt to constantly changing conditions – there have been and will continue to be climate changes anyway, with or without pollution from humans.
